Limassol Wine Festival

Limassol Wine Festival Cyprus

The annual Limassol Wine Festival has been celebrating Cyprus’s winemaking tradition since 1961, making it the country’s longest-running modern festival. Inspired by the ancient Greek celebrations dedicated to Dionysus and Aphrodite, the festival coincides with the grape harvest season and takes place in Limassol as well as in 20 traditional villages throughout the Limassol district.

Over the course of ten days of festivities, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of traditional and wine-related activities, including daily free wine tastings, performances of traditional Cypriot music and folk dances, grape stomping events, and wine education workshops.

Colorful parades are also held in several villages, such as Koilani, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. A highlight of the festival is the impressive “Vraka Man” statue, which symbolizes the island’s rich rural winemaking heritage.

Young people and children take part in music and folk dance performances, shadow theatre, and balloon activities. Through engaging educational workshops, the younger generation also learns about the island’s winemaking history and traditions.
