The Sartiglia Festival
The Sartiglia Festival Italy
Oristano, 09170 Italy
During the festival, a traditional equestrian tournament is held, featuring a ring jousting competition in which masked horsemen, known as the "Componidori", attempt to pierce a star-shaped ring suspended from a ribbon. Dressed in 16th-century Spanish costumes, the riders also perform horse acrobatics and synchronized group displays.
To accompany these performances, traditional Sardinian music fills the air, with drummers and pipers playing throughout the event. Visitors can also enjoy authentic Sardinian dishes served during the festivities.
Youth participation is high, as young people take part in preparing the event by caring for the horses and crafting masks. A Sartiglietta — a smaller version of the main tournament — is also organized to allow younger children to experience and take part in the same traditional activities.
